How can I browse the Internet while HAL is running?

If there is only one modem in the computer and it's being used for HAL's telephony features and for downloading information from the Internet, then there are three different ways to connect to the Internet when HAL is running:

Right-click on the ear icon and select CONNECT TO INTERNET. HAL will connect to the Internet. You can then browse the Internet or whatever you wish to do. When finished, click DISCONNECT FROM INTERNET in the ear icon. (These options are grayed out if a dedicated Internet connection is selected in the Internet Configuration screen.)
Right-click on the ear icon and select VIEW INTERNET INFORMATION from the pop-up menu. The HAL Internet screen will appear. Click on MONITOR DOWNLOAD at the bottom of the screen. When the screen changes, click on the CONNECT button. HAL will connect to the Internet. You can then browse the Internet or whatever you wish to do. When finished, click DISCONNECT in the HAL Internet screen.
Right-click on the phone icon and select RELEASE MODEM from the pop-up menu. A red X appears over the phone icon, indicating that HAL has released control of the modem so that other applications can use it. You can now connect to the Internet using a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) connection. When you're done with that Internet connection, right-click on the phone icon and select ACTIVATE MODEM from the pop-up menu. The red X will disappear from the phone icon, indicating that HAL has regained control of the modem so that it can answer the phone and take voice mail messages and connect to the Internet automatically (if programmed to do so).

If there are two modems in the computer, then you can use one of the modems to connect to the Internet even while HAL has control of the other modem. In this scenario, use the modem that HAL is not using for the telephony features (the modem that HAL is using for the telephony features is indicated in the Telephone Configuration screen).

If you have a LAN, DSL, ISDN, cable modem, or similar connection, then browsing the Internet while HAL is running is not a problem and there is nothing special you need to do other than launch an Internet browser.
