Starting Fresh

I've built a new home and want to start completely fresh with HAL. What's the best way to delete all the old devices and rules and basically everything? I'd like to freshly add each device and rule and macro new.

Do I just delete the data files?

Thanks,

Wirenut

Hi,

The easy way is to close HAL. Go into the the Program Files\HAL\Data directory and delete all the *.dbf, *.dbt, *.fpt and *.cdx files. leave all the other files like *.dat When HAL starts back up, it will recreate new blank files.

If you are using EMC you can keep the historical data which is stored in *.mdb. Also the log files for historical events and device usage are kept in STATLOGYYYYMM.dbf in case you want to keep that info.

Please let me know if you have any issues.

Tyler

I would just add a few things to what Tyler mentioned. If all you want to do is clear out devices, rules and macros you an delete Device.*, CondMacro*.*, Rule*.*, Macro.*, Group.*

You don't want to delete the Manufact.* which contains the various devices you can add. If you should accidentally delete a critical file, you can run the HAL installer and select Custom as opposed to automatic. On the next screen select just HAL databases which will install the critical data files required for HAL.

Regards,

Tim
