I want to move HAL to a different hard drive or I'm going to make hardware changes to the current computer. What will this do to HAL's registration?

As stated in the License Agreement, HAL can only be installed on one computer. If you're going to make a hardware change to the computer that HAL is installed on, there is a possibility that HAL will assume that the software has been installed onto a different computer. Because this is a violation of the License Agreement, HAL will bring up the Registration screen again and will stop working after thirty (30) days.

 

If you're going to make a hardware change to your computer and you think it will affect HAL's registration, or if you want to move HAL to a different hard drive, then follow the steps below to unregister and then re-register HAL.

• Right-click on the ear icon and click on ABOUT.
  
  
• In the About screen, click on UNREGISTER (this button only appears if HAL has been registered).
  
  
• A screen will appear asking if you are sure that you want to unregister HAL. Click YES.
  
  
• An "unregistration" number will appear. Write down this number. Click OK to close the screen. Shut down HAL if it doesn't shut down automatically.
  
  
• Make whatever changes you want to the computer or install HAL onto a different hard drive.
  
  
• Start HAL. The HAL Registration screen will appear. Call the HAL Authorization Desk and give them the unregistration number from step 4. The Authorization Desk will ask for the information that appears on the registration screen and will then issue you a new authorization code. Enter the code into the Registration screen and click REGISTER.

If you are going to install HAL onto a different hard drive, copy the HAL "Data" folder to another area of the computer or to a floppy or ZIP disk or some other media. Once HAL is installed on the new hard drive, you can then copy the old "Data" folder over the "Data" folder that was created when the software was installed. The "Data" folder contains the list of devices, macros, schedules, rules, mailboxes, etc. that you created. If you copy the old "Data" folder over the new "Data" folder you will save time by not having to re-create all the devices, schedules, mailboxes, etc.

 

The "Data" folder is in the HAL program folder, which by default is C:\Program Files\HAL.
